Mr. Michael Kiza, from Uganda, joined EACREEE in January 2017 as the Programme Management Expert, seconded by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). His current role involves designing and implementing programmes in the areas of policy formulation, capacity building and investment promotions on renewable energy and energy efficiency to contribute to universal access to sustainable energy.
Prior to joining EACREEE, Mr Kiza worked as a Programme Management Officer at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Department of Technical Cooperation from January 2010 to December 2016. While at the IAEA, he took the lead in developing and implementing several national technical cooperation projects for Angola, Cameroon, Eritrea, Mauritius and Seychelles as well as regional projects – all aimed at utilizing peaceful applications of nuclear science and technologies to support sustainable socio-economic development.
Mr Kiza also served the Uganda’s Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development as a Senior Energy Officer – Efficiency (2004-2007) and Head of Nuclear Energy Unit, National Liaison Officer for Technical Cooperation between the Government of Uganda & IAEA and National Coordinator for African Regional Cooperative Agreement on Research, Development & Training related to Nuclear Science and Technology (2007-2009). He also served in various capacities in the private sector (manufacturing industries) before joining the public sector, where he was instrumental in promoting industrial energy efficiency.
Mr. Kiza brings in rich experience from the private sector, public sector and international organizations with respect to partnership building and programme development and management which are crucial for promoting universal access to sustainable energy at regional level.
Mr Kiza holds a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Industrial Chemistry) from Makerere University (Kampala, Uganda) and MSc Sustainable Energy Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology (Stockholm, Sweden).
