REGIONAL TRAININGS ON MICROGRIDS

Event Date:
Tuesday, August 4, 2026 to Thursday, August 6, 2026

Are you a professional in the renewable energy sector? EACREEE is organising a virtual training programme for professionals to strengthen capacity and empower a pool of experts to drive the region's renewable energy transition.

Objectives

The overall objective of this training is to strengthen the capacity of participating energy professionals to design and implement micro-grid energy projects. The training will provide participants with the knowledge and skills needed to achieve this objective by offering a platform to:

  1. Build the capacity of energy professionals in planning, technical design, construction, operation and maintenance of microgrid systems.
  2. Enhance participants' understanding of the policy and regulatory frameworks required for successful implementation of microgrid projects.
  3. Strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders and decision-makers to develop, implement and scale up renewable energy projects.

Scope of the Training

The training will provide comprehensive, focused capacity building in planning, design, construction, operation, and maintenance of microgrid systems, as well as regulatory and financing aspects. The content is structured into four (4) modules, each incorporating practical case studies drawn from real-life microgrid projects within the region and beyond. The Modules include:

  1. Introduction to micro-grids. Components of a micro-grid system and community energy needs.
  2. Enabling environment: Economics, policy and regulatory landscape.
  3. Business models and financing of project development.
  4. Engineering, procurement and construction of micro-grid projects.
  5. Evaluating social and environmental impacts or considerations for projects.

Target Audience

The training is designed for renewable energy professionals from the East African Community Partner States.  Its content is tailored to meet the needs of both technical experts and decision-makers, including policy-makers involved in the renewable energy sector.

Participation and Registration

The training will be conducted virtually from 4- 6 August 2026. Participation in all training series is encouraged throughout the training month.
